Statement of Faith
The Bible itself is the sole and final source of all that we believe. Our Statement of Faith outlines what we believe the Bible says. Our Core Values further detail how we abide by it.
This Statement of Faith is an excerpt from the Constitution of Bible Baptist Church. In the event of any discrepancy, the Constitution as approved by the congregation is the governing document.
the Bible
We believe the entire sixty-six books of the Old and New Testaments of the Holy Bible is complete, final, and the only revealed Word of God to His Church. We accept that every word is inspired of God, inerrant in their original language, and preserved through the centuries, and we submit to them as the supreme authority in all matters of faith and practice.
(Deuteronomy 4:1-2; 17:19; Psalm 19:7-10; Isaiah 40:8; II Timothy 3:16-17; I Peter 1:25; II Peter 1:21)
God
We believe in the triune God, who created heaven and earth in six literal days. The Scriptures reveal the one and only living and true God, eternally existing in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, but one in substance, essence, and power though executing distinct but harmonious offices in the great work of redemption. The attributes of God are that He is infinite, eternal, sovereign, and unchangeable. God also communicates His love, omniscience, justice, and holiness to His creation.
(Genesis 1; Exodus 3:14; 20:11; Deuteronomy 6:4; Psalm 19:1-3; Mark 1:9-11; John 5:26; 14:6-13; Ephesians 1:3-14)
Jesus
We believe in Jesus Christ, God's only begotten Son, fully God, fully man, our sole mediator; we further believe in His pre-existence, His incarnation, His virgin birth, His sinless life, His substitutionary atonement, His bodily resurrection from the grave, His ascension, His present intercessory work before the throne of the Father, and His literal, personal, visible, imminent return from Heaven.
(Isaiah 7:14; Matthew 1:18-23; 3:17; John 1:1-18; 10:17-18; 10:30; 14:3 14:7-11; Acts 1:9; Romans 1:3-4; 3:23-26; Galatians 4:4-5; Ephesians 1:20; 4:7-10; Philippians 2: 5-11; I Thessalonians 4:14-18; I Timothy 2:5-6; 3:16; Titus 2:13-14; Hebrews 1:1-4; 4:14-15; 7:14-28; I John 1:7-9; Revelation 5:9-14)
Holy Spirit
We believe that the Holy Spirit, whom Jesus introduced as the comforter, is a divine personality, equal with the Father and the Son, and of the same essence and nature, and not a mere emanation, influence, or force; that He worked in revelation and inspiration, testifies to the truth, extols the Christ, and convicts the world of sin; that He regenerates, indwells, teaches, guides, empowers, sanctifies, and anoints the lives of the saved in harmony with His divine office.
(Genesis 1:2; Psalm 51:11; Matthew 1:18; 3:16; 4:1; Luke 1:35; 11:13; 12:12; John 4:24; 14:16-17; 16:7-15; Acts 1:8; 2:1-4; Romans 8:9-11; Galatians 4:6; Ephesians 1:13-14; I Timothy 3:16; II Timothy 1:14; I Peter 1:2; II Peter 1:21; I John 4:13; Revelation 22:17)
Man
We believe that God originally created man in His own image and free from sin; that God wonderfully and immutably creates each person as either male or female is sacred. These two distinct, complementary genders each reflect the image of God. Human life is of inestimable worth in all its dimensions, including pre-born babies, the aged, the physically or mentally challenged, and every other stage or condition from conception through natural death. We are therefore called to defend, protect, and value all human life. Deviation from this biblical perspective on man is a rejection of God’s created order. We believe all persons should be treated with compassion, love, kindness, respect and dignity regardless of differences, for we believe that we should love all persons as ourselves. We repudiate all hateful and harassing behavior or attitudes directed toward any individual as not in accord with Scripture nor the doctrines and beliefs of BBC. Even so, through sin, man has deviated from God’s will, creating the need for salvation.
(Genesis 1:26-30; James 2:1-8; Luke 6:31; Mark 12:28-31; Psalm 139; Romans 1:18-32; 3:10-26)
Sin
We believe that sin is any rebellion against God and His created order. Through the temptation of Satan, Adam and Eve fell from the perfect will of God, thus their posterity inherits a sin nature: totally depraved, and wholly opposed to God and His law, thus are under condemnation.
(Genesis 2:17; 3:1-19; Romans 1:19-32; 3:10-18; 5:12-21; 6:23; Galatians 5:16-21; Ephesians 2:1-3)
Salvation
We believe that salvation is redemption and forgiveness of sins through Christ Jesus which is offered to all persons through His death, burial, and resurrection. This salvation is by grace through faith in Jesus Christ as Savior from sin, apart from human merit, works, or ceremonies. We believe that God offers restoration for confession, forsaking sins, and seeking His mercy and forgiveness. Redemption and Christian growth occur through continued belief in this Gospel. We further believe regenerate Christians are eternally secure in the Lord Jesus Christ and therefore cannot lose their salvation.
(Luke 1:68-69; John 1:11-14, 29; 3:3-21; 5:24; 10:9, 27-29; Acts 3:19-21; Romans 6:23; 10:9-10, 13; I Corinthians 6:9-11; 15:1-4; II Corinthians 5:17; Galatians 2:20; Ephesians 2:8-9; Titus 3:5-7; 1 Peter 1:3-5)
The Local Church
We believe BBC is a called out body of believers baptized by immersion upon profession of faith in the Lord Jesus Christ who is the Head of the Church, united in the belief of what He has taught, and covenanting together to do what He has commanded. We further believe that BBC, under the Holy Spirit, is autonomous and Elder led congregationalist in operation being free from interference by an ecclesiastical or civil authority when in conflict with the clear teachings of the Scriptures.
(Matthew 18:15-19; 28:18-20; Acts 1:8; 2:41-42, 47; 5:11-14; 6:3-6; 14:23; 20:28; Romans 13:1-7; I Corinthians 1:2; 9:13-14; Ephesians 1:22-23; 2:19-22; 3:8-11; 5:22-32; Philippians 1:1; Colossians 1:18; I Timothy 3:1-15; Titus 1:5-9; I Peter 5:1-4; Revelation 21:2-3)
The Lord’s Supper
(Matthew 26:26-30; Mark 14:22-26; Luke 22:19-20; I Corinthians 10:16, 21; 11:23-29)
Resurrection
We believe in the resurrection of the body; in the eternal existence of all persons either in heaven or hell; in divine judgments, rewards, and punishments.
(Proverbs 11:18; Matthew 5:11-12; 6:20; 16:27; 25:31-46; Mark 3:29; 9:43-48; Luke 10:14-15; 15:7; 16:19-26; 20:36; John 6:54; 11:25-26; 14:2-3; Acts 24:15; Romans 6:4-5, 23; 14:10b-12; I Corinthians 15:42; Hebrews 10:27-30; I John 5:11; Revelation 20:11-15; 21:2-3)
Last Things
We believe in the Blessed Hope, the coming of the Lord Jesus to meet the believers in the air. We believe He will return with the saints to establish His literal millennial reign upon the earth and then in the new heaven and earth where His saints will be forever gathered together with Him in Heaven for all eternity. We believe at the end of the millennial reign all unbelievers, Satan and his angels will face final judgment.
(Matthew 19:28; 24:27, 30, 44; 26:64; Mark 8:38; Luke 12:40; John 14:1-3; Titus 2:13; I Thessalonians 4:13-17; Revelation 1:18; 20:1-22:13)
Marriage & Sexuality
We believe that marriage as so defined in scripture has only one meaning: the uniting of one man and one woman in a single, exclusive union. We believe that God intends sexual intimacy to occur only between a man and a woman who are married to each other. We believe that God has commanded that no intimate sexual activity be engaged in outside of a marriage between a man and a woman. We believe that marriage occurs when two persons, one male and one female, consent to enter into a covenant through the giving of pledges and the making of vows to each other, before witnesses and God. These two become one as they enter into a life-long covenant pledging faithfulness and love until death. We believe that any form of sexual immorality (including but not limited to adultery, fornication, homosexual behavior, bisexual conduct, bestiality, incest, and use of pornography) is sinful and offensive to God.
(Genesis 2:18-25; Matthew 15:18-20; Mark 10:6-9; 7:2-5; I Corinthians 6:9-10, 18; 7:39; Hebrews 13:4)
Cooperation
We believe BBC should cooperate with other organizations and persons of like faith and practice carrying forward the educational, missionary, and benevolent ministries of the universal Church. In such cooperation, BBC will continue to hold to and promote fundamental beliefs and practices which are in agreement with the statement of faith of this body.
(Nehemiah 4:16-17; Mark 2:3; Luke 10:1ff; Acts 2:1ff; 4:31-37; 13:2-3; 15:1-35; I Corinthians 1:10-17; 3:5-15; 12; II Corinthians 8-9; Galatians 1:6-10; Ephesians 4:1-16)
Lawsuits Between Believers
We believe Christians should not bring civil lawsuits against other Christians or the universal Church to resolve personal disputes. We believe BBC possesses all the resources necessary to resolve personal disputes between members.
(Matthew 18:15-22; Luke 17:3-4; I Corinthians 6:1-8; Ephesians 4:31-32)
Statement of Faith in Practice
We believe that in order to preserve the biblical function and integrity of BBC as the local Body of Christ, and to provide a biblical role model to the community it is imperative that members of BBC and all persons employed by BBC in any capacity, or who serve as volunteers, agree to and abide by this Statement of Faith.
(Matthew 5:16; Philippians 2:14-16; I Thessalonians 5:22).
